Recently reported frequent incidents of TV set explosions have
aroused intense panic |
among worldwide consumers. One even caused death toll in China!
FIRSTOHM hereby |
announces the worldwide
tech alert, based on FIRSTOHM's in-depth understanding
of customers' circuit applications and technical experience for
35 years time, stating that |
explosion incidents may probably be caused by resistors.
To reduce TV costs, large quantity of through-hole resistors are
replaced by chip resistors, |
while chip ones have poorer anti-surge characteristics than
through-hole ones. An important |
role of resistors in TV sets – surge damp – is thus not performed
well by the replacement |
with chip resistors. In turn, the major surge damp component,
carbon composition resistor, |
must take on heavier burden handling surges in TV sets.
Unfortunately, carbon composition |
resistors tend to decrease resistance values after surge impacts,
and eventually lose their |
anti-surge capability. High-voltage surges in TV sets not damped
properly will, in a manner, |
damage other components in circuits; or as a severe result, emit
arcing onto CRT and cause |
CRT to explode due to the high temperature induced by arcing! What
is more terrible is that |
some TV makers even completely spare carbon composition resistors
and no surge damp |
function exists in TV sets. That's why incidents of TV set
explosions are heard so frequent |
recently! |
Using components with higher quality and reliability can reduce
possibility of TV set |
explosions. It is highly recommended to replace traditional carbon
composition resistor |
with FIRSTOHM's PPR– Pulse Protective Resistor - with no change in
value after |
surge impacts and with a cost-effective price. Also it is recommended
to use FIRSTOHM's |
HVR - High Voltage Resistor with world's smallest size approved by
VDE. |
